All 2 handed polearms are polearms, only 2 handed weapons are axes/maces/swords. Nothing beside the 3 I mentioned are counter as 2 handed. It improves based on weapon type and 1 handed spear is a polearm as polearm is 1 or 2 handed. It's same for thrown javelins in melee, they count as polearms too.

Polearm = polearms. 2 handers = 2handed axe/mace/sword. Two-handed skill does not affect two-handed polearms. It's less confusing to just consider any polearms not as 2H. (Can last the whole game, too, if you wish.)
